WordSpring Writers’ Conference Set For April 27

Poets, storytellers and screenwriters can hone their craft at the eighth annual WordSpring creative writing conference at Butte College on Saturday, April 27 in the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, inside the Learning Resource Center, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Attendees will spend a day with published authors, participate in workshops, and will leave the conference with works in progress, a sense of community and newfound artistic inspiration.

Poet Eloisa Amezcua, author of the award-winning book “From the Inside Quietly” (2018), will deliver a keynote speech and lead two workshops on poetry writing. Other poetry workshops will be led by Ken Letko and Butte College faculty member John LaPine.

Fiction writers Eric Witchey, Rob Davidson, Tim Hayes and Zu Vincent will help attendees craft stories and novels in workshops ranging from beginning level to advanced. First time presenter Debby Dodds, author of the novel “Amish Guys Don’t Call,” will offer workshops in humor writing and horror writing. Michael Tabb, a Los Angeles screenwriter, will offer screenwriting workshops for the first time.

An on-the-spot writing contest is part of the day. Authors’ books, t-shirts, and mugs will be available for sale at the conference, and breakfast and lunch are included in the cost, which has been lowered this year to $30 for students and educators and $60 for community members in response to the Camp Fire. Those who lost their homes can attend the event free but must register in advance.

To register for the event – visit www.buttewordspring.org. There will be a limited number of registrations available in person on the day of the conference for an additional $5 each.
